Simulation and Training Environment Lab

SiTEL is an environment where educators, health care providers and programmers come together to create innovative education platforms and technologies to deliver outstanding education to health care providers. The mission of SiTEL is to transform the way we educate and train. The health care industry has not changed its educational tools for several centuries. We want to provide education that is aligned with the 21st century:  fast, user friendly, and easily reachable from anywhere to everywhere. We accomplish these goals with ground-breaking solutions: on-line education, live hands-on training courses, medical simulation, human computer interface and 3D multimedia. Our "On Demand" learning fills a critical need for accessible, concise emergency preparedness training and education with its customized Learning Management Systems (LMS). Health care workers can access the internet-based system at any time from anywhere to study courses in trauma, chemical, biological and nuclear/radiological medicines. Meanwhile, the software application automates the administration, tracking and reporting of education and training events. Our "live" training courses include Hospital Disaster Life Support (HDLS), HDLS II Update for those who want to renew their HDLS certificate, and a unique Hospital Security Preparedness (HSP) course for Hospital Protective Services and Law Enforcement.  All of our courses combine classroom instruction of critical "all hazards" response issues, hands-on training and "live" drills in a real-life setting. Our Clinical Simulation Centers provide the forefront in technology, advanced training methodology and web-based student and trainer portfolios. 

The Institute for Bioterrorism and Emerging Disease researches, collects and shares information, and is chartered to facilitate up-to-date resource planning and the dissemination of knowledge on emerging diseases related to terrorism or natural disease outbreaks. The bepast.org website operated by the institute contains one of the largest collections of bioterrorism and emerging disease related alerts, articles, news, posters, and images on the web.

Institute for Public Health Emergency Readiness

The Institute for Public Health Emergency Readiness works to assist hospitals, public health departments, and other response community organizations improve their emergency preparedness by offering planning, training and exercise expertise aimed at addressing individual agency and healthcare facility response needs as well as promote collaborative community preparedness initiatives.

The Institute for Innovation in Nursing Readiness provides expertise to health care systems and personnel in developing effective plans, response and education on emergency preparedness methods. The Institute specializes in competency based training, curriculum requirements, evaluating and responding to JCAHO standards as well as assisting hospitals and systems in organizing mitigation, planning, response and evaluation activities.

Project ER One is a federally funded effort to develop an “all-risks ready” emergency department, a facility designed to cope with terrorist events and emerging diseases, with special capabilities built-in for scalability, medical consequences management, and threat mitigation. It will serve as the prototype for new or retrofitted emergency departments throughout the country. ER One is to be a prototype emergency care facility for the 21st century and demonstration facility for the nation. Project ER One is the first federally funded emergency department design project specifically targeting the threat of terrorism.
